Deda (დედა) - translated from Georgian: Mother

Deda is an ongoing project that documents mothers who migrated to the United States from Georgia. The mother figure has historically been a symbol of the country itself: fighter, defender, the hearth, courage and fidelity.

As someone born and raised in Georgia, where religion, traditions and community are crucial in people’s everyday life, I captured mothers dislocated from their homeland. These women are currently living outside their comfort zone in the most multicultural and diverse land for the prosperous future of their children.
